The College Football Playoff Management Committee has announced new COVID-19 policies, as concerns about the COVID-19 omicron variant continue to grow.
These policies could affect the Fiesta Bowl, Arizona’s yearly college football headliner.
The new policies hinge on one of two teams, Notre Dame or Oklahoma State, being unable to play due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
If one team must bow out, the bowl could be rescheduled within a week of the original date if the committee, the bowl game and television partner ESPN can agree on a different date. If not, the game would be cancelled.
On the professional level, the NFL was forced to reschedule games last week due to coronavirus outbreaks on several teams.
As of right now, the Fiesta Bowl is scheduled to be played on the morning of New Year’s Day at State Farm Stadium in Glendale.
