KJZZ's Fronteras Desk is committed to telling the stories of the the Southwest, from northern Arizona to Hermosillo, Mexico. Here are KJZZ's top three Fronteras Desk stories from the past year.

1. Report: Hundreds of immigration court notices missing

In January, the investigative arm of Congress wanted to know what happened to hundreds of immigration court cases for people who passed an initial asylum interview.

2. The future of DACA may depend on Congress

As lawmakers returned to Washington in September, they were confronted by the future of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program. DACA and its supporters were dealt another blow in July when  a federal judge in Texas ruled it was illegal, then barred the government from approving any new applications, while leaving it intact for existing recipients.

3. After meetings with VP Harris, Mexico says border reopening will be gradual

Mexico’s foreign minister announced in June that travel restrictions at the U.S.-Mexico border could begin gradually easing. The step forward came after  Vice President Kamala Harris’s visit to Mexico.
