It was easy to get Arizona's new congressional maps. But the legislative maps were another matter

Last week, the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission approved final maps for legislative and congressional districts that will shape the political makeup of the state for the next decade.

The vote on the congressional map was unanimous, but discussions on the legislative one started to get ugly before the chair sided with the two Republican commissioners in a split 3-2 vote.

Democrats are expectedly not too happy with the final lines, but that doesn’t necessarily tell the full story of the commission.

Jeremy Duda of the Arizona Mirror has been doggedly covering redistricting. The Show spoke with him to learn about what comes next and about all the drama that unfolded last week.
