Arizona's new congressional map favors Republicans in 2022

Reviews of the newly adopted congressional maps show that Republicans can hold a 6-3 edge over Democrats in 2022.

Sam Almy with the liberal-focused campaign firm Uplift says Democrats really only hold two safe seats.

The district at the forefront example is the competitive 6th District, which runs from midtown Tucson through parts of Cochise and Pinal counties. Democrats won three of the last five elections there.

But the Independent Redistricting Commission moved many Democrats there into neighboring Congressional District 7, which has heavily leaned left.

Political analyst George Khalaf with the conservative group Data Orbital says while more Democrats are registering in some districts, there have been more Republicans signing up in rural areas.
