Some schools are going back to school this week, but what their classes look like may depend on the district. Some are taking precautions with the new surge in COVID-19 cases after the holidays.
Arizona Education Association President Joe Thomas says parents should be prepared for a temporary return to remote learning.
“I just don’t want people to be caught off-guard. So the tweet said parents should be preparing for a temporary shift to remote learning. It would be due to not enough staff to be able to report for work," Thomas said.
He added that he isn't advocating for remote learning, but it could be an option some districts take.
Some schools like the K-8 Kyrene School District in Tempe are requiring masks indoors again. And Thomas says some schools have delayed students coming back to school, to allow for teachers to come in first.
