Maricopa County supervisors elected Republican Bill Gates as the board’s new chairman for 2022.

Gates succeeds former chairman Jack Sellers, who led the board of supervisors through a trying year — not just due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic but also a spat with Republican state senators over a controversial review of the 2020 election.

Gates, who’s been an outspoken defender of the accuracy of the county’s election results, said he’ll continue to combat misinformation in yet another election year.

He also vowed to cut property taxes in Maricopa County for the second year in a row.
