The Arizona Coyotes have chosen a company that also belongs to the owner of the same National Hockey League franchise to run an online sportsbook.
The SaharaBets platform is scheduled to go live on Jan. 12.
Alex Meruelo owns the Coyotes. Meruelo’s portfolio has gambling ventures, too, such as the Sahara casino in Las Vegas, and the new digital platform SaharaBets.
The latter has partnered with the Coyotes to run a sportsbook the team got through recent changes to the state gaming compact.
SaharaBets said in a news release that the company looks forward to collaborating with the Coyotes to engage fans in unique ways.
Neither a team spokesman nor the NHL office replied to questions about the partnership.
It’s unclear where the Coyotes will call home next season as Glendale has said it won’t renew the team’s lease of Gila River Arena.
