Over the course of 2021, the state averaged nearly 630,000 formal jobs, Sonora’s highest yearly average on record, according to federal jobs data. It’s also several thousand over the same figure in 2019, the most recent complete pre-pandemic year. The figure for Mexico as a whole is down modestly from the 2019 average.
Since March 2021, every month was up in Sonora over the same month in 2020.
The federal data do not include informal workers, who make up a significant portion of the workforce in Sonora and across Mexico.
