Lowell Observatory is closing for the 2nd time in 2 years due to COVID-19 cases

The Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff is temporarily closing again due to rising COVID-19 cases, after reopening to general admission in November.

The observatory was either closed or offering limited programming for 20 months, beginning in March 2020, before reopening last year.

Observatory officials say it will remain closed until the surge of local cases has “significantly diminished.”

In the three-month period the observatory was open, all public-facing staff were vaccinated, and either proof of vaccination or a recent negative test were required for entry.

Officials say they will continue to update the public on social media and are planning digital experiences while the observatory is closed.
