Tomás Rojo, a Yaqui community leader and activist on water issues, went missing last May and his body was found the following month.
Two suspects were arrested over the summer, and now a third — authorities say likely the final — suspect is in custody.
The man, identifiedby the state Attorney’s Office simply as Carlos Alexis, was recently arrested in the municipality of Cajeme in southern Sonora by local police and soldiers.
An arrest warrant had been issued for the suspect. Several other people were arrested, and weapons and suspected drugs were also seized.
