American cities have been divided by race for generations. And Rashad Shabazz argues it wasn’t accidental, and that its implications are vast.
Shabazz is an associate professor in the Schools of Social Transformation and Geographical Sciences & Urban Planning at Arizona State University. In a virtual lecture he’ll give Jan. 12 titled, “ Where Do You Live? How Did You Get There?," he will outline how policies and laws have directly led to this housing segregation in our communities, and how they still do today.
The history of this is long and troublesome, from racially restrictive covenants that were inserted into the deeds of homes post-World War I, to a term you’ve probably heard: redlining.
But this is not all history. There is still discrimination in housing policy today.
The Show spoke with Shabazz to learn how discrimination is still at play in today's market.
