For 2nd time, Mexico’s president tests positive for COVID-19

Mexico’s president has again tested positive for COVID-19.

At his Monday morning press conference, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador was asked about the apparent hoarseness in his voice.

Unmasked and speaking to a room full of reporters, AMLO, as he is widely known, acknowledged that he had woken up feeling a bit ill Monday and said that he planned to take a test later that afternoon.

In a Monday afternoon tweet, AMLO confirmed the diagnosis, saying that his symptoms were light and that he would be isolating. In a Tuesday morning video message, AMLO, who is fully vaccinated and has received a booster dose, said in a still hoarse voice that his symptoms remained light.

As cases rise sharply in Mexico, he also downplayed the seriousness of the omicron variant.
