Gov. Doug Ducey mentioned several education ideas he wants to focus on during this legislative session when he delivered his final State of the State address Jan. 10 but was light on specifics.
Among those topics, which have already been the subject of much discussion from the education groups statewide, are another attempt to expand school choice and banning critical race theory once again, but he failed to mention what may inevitably be the most important education story to start 2022.
The education spending cap deadline is approaching and lawmakers need to increase it soon or schools could be faced with closures with potential layoffs for teachers amid a shortage and retention crisis.
