Sonora Quest expanding COVID-19 testing capabilities

Sonora Quest is hiring more staff to expand their testing capabilities after seeing the most tests in one day since the pandemic began.

On Jan. 4, Sonora Quest says they went through nearly 30,000 PCR tests.

With the expansion set, the labs will be able to handle 38,000 tests in a single day.

Sonora Quest Chief Operating Officer Sonya Engle says the demand for tests is currently higher than what they saw from the jump in cases from the delta variant. This week, Sonora Quest’s testing dashboard shows 40% of tests are coming back positive.

Like most other companies, they have seen a higher than usual number of employee absences, but Engle says it has not caused a major backlog.

Arizona is seeing the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began.
