2 records in 3 days: Arizona reports 20,257 COVID-19 cases

Arizona on Friday set another record for new daily COVID-19 cases. The state added 20,257 cases to its daily dashboard.

It is the first time Arizona has reported more than 20,000 COVID-19 infections on a single day, and it is the second record-breaking case report this week. The previous record was set on Wednesday, when the state  reported 18,783 cases.

On average, the state has been reporting nearly 17,000 cases per day this week. During last winter’s COVID-19 surge, the state’s seven-day average never surpassed 10,000 cases.

Arizona this week also  surpassed 25,000 total COVID-19 deaths since the pandemic began. On average, Arizona has been reporting about 60 deaths per day recently. The average daily death toll is trending upward, but remains below last winter’s peak.
