How Arizona can improve care for its sickest mental health patients

As the longtime head of psychiatry at Valleywise Health, Carol Olson knows the challenges of providing care to people with serious mental illness.

Last fall, she joined the director of the Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS), the head of the state hospital and others on the Joint Legislative Psychiatric Hospital Review Council, which convened to discuss how to reform the system.

The group has yet to release recommendations, but The Show spoke with Olson recently about her thoughts on how best to help some of the sickest people.
