A little more than a year after President Joe Biden took office, many still falsely claim there was widespread voter fraud in the general election. Now the state Legislature is starting the process of potentially altering election laws.
Some of the bills proposed in the Legislature on Monday set tight restrictions on ballots, such as what paper can be used. Others would completely remove everyone from the early voting list.
While some legislators continued the claims of voter fraud, state Sen. Martín Quezada rejected those.
"We performed our own audit. Even that audit said that Joe Biden won. So, saying that the election was stolen, that's great for a campaign speech. But it's not reality," Quezada said.
The debate came on the same day Arizona formed a committee to host the 2023 Super Bowl. A group of Faith Leaders is calling on the NFL to pull the game out of the state due to what they say are already restrictive election laws.
The NFL has a precedent by removing the 1993 Super Bowl from the state due to Arizona failing to create a holiday to honor Martin Luther King Jr.
