Public health officials are expressing optimism that we may be approaching an end to the surge for omicron cases in the state.
Arizona Public Health Association Executive Director Will Humble says we will likely see three peaks by the end of February.
“The first peak that we reach and when we start to decline is going to be that peak for infections, but the next peak will be about two to three weeks later, and that will be new hospitalizations from COVID-19. And then the peak in deaths will be two to three weeks after that," Humble said.
Humble added he expects to see some return to normalcy in the late spring and early summer as the disease likely becomes endemic. Fewer cases will allow hospitals to offer elective surgeries again.
