Mexico gets green light to send agents to the U.S. to combat weapons trafficking

A top Mexican official says his country intends to send agents to the United States to address weapons trafficking.

Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard said that the United States has agreed to allow Mexico to send around 20 agents largely focused on that illegal traffic. Many of the weapons used by criminal groups in Mexico are brought illegally from the U.S.

During his Saturday commentsto legislators from the president’s Morena party, Ebrard also addressed the Mexican government’s ongoing lawsuit against American gun manufacturers, which — if successful — he says could reduce the number of weapons smuggled into Mexico.
