City planners have tools to deal with heat. A new survey finds many may not be using them

Heat is becoming more of an issue in cities across the country, not just in the Southwest. And new research aims to get a sense of how cities understand heat planning into the future, and how they’re addressing their heat risk.

To do that, two researchers, Ladd Keith at the University of Arizona and Sara Meerow at Arizona State University, surveyed city planners about these issues. Among other findings, planners in the Northeast reported implementing more strategies than their counterparts in other regions, and large cities did more to try to combat heat than small- or medium-sized ones.

To learn about the survey, The Show spoke with Keith.
