President Joe Biden plans to nominate a new U.S. Supreme Court justice for the seat left open by Justice Stephen Breyer's retirement later this month.
U.S. Sen. Mark Kelly from Arizona remains optimistic about the confirmation process ahead and that he thinks the process will go quickly.
President Biden promised the nomination will go to an African American woman. Kelly says he won’t have trouble finding someone.
“There are numerous African American women who serve as judges across the country and have the experience to serve in this role as a Supreme Court justice, I mean they are qualified,” Kelly said.
Biden started talks with senators on the Judiciary Committee, along with Vice President Kamala Harris earlier this week to consult on the nomination.
