Chandler’s free innovation fair to feature model rocket launches, prizes for students

The city of Chandler is partnering with the Chandler Unified School District in hopes of increasing school participation in an Innovation Fair.

In past years, the city and school district held separate events. By combining forces, they hope to expose more students to careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

Chandler focuses on “sneaky science,” a way to entertain kids and adults while also explaining how science is important to daily life.

The hands-on event will take place on Saturday, Feb.19, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Chandler.

Aerospace company Northrop Grumman will launch a model rocket every hour and their scientists and engineers will host interactive activities. K-12 schools that fall within Chandler city boundaries can enter the innovation competition. Six winning teams will each get $500.

As a senior field correspondent, Christina Estes focuses on stories that impact our economy, your wallet and public policy.
