Phil Boas: Calls to move 2023 Super Bowl out of AZ could have opposite political impact

The Show regularly checks in with the editorial board of the Arizona Republic to talk about current issues facing the state and the region — featured in columns on the newspaper’s op-ed pages.

As soon as the 2022 Super Bowl ended Feb. 13 in Los Angeles, the countdown to next season's Super Bowl in Glendale began. It will be the fourth time Arizona will host the NFL's big game.

But Republic columnist E.J. Montini thinks the NFL should consider moving the Super Bowl out of the Valley, if some controversial election and voting-related bills are approved. There is precedent for the NFL making that kind of decision, as Arizona lost the 1993 Super Bowl because the state didn't have a Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The Show spoke with Phil Boas of the Republic about the premise of Montini's column.
