Salt River Project will elect new board members this spring to provide oversight for much of the Valley’s power and water needs.
SRP management consults regularly with elected board members, who serve staggered four-year terms.
But not all customers can vote, and those who can, don’t always bother — election turnout is usually around 1%.
Board member Randy Miller, who is running for reelection, says that he would like to see elections more inclusive.
He would also like early voting to be easier.
“You have to request a ballot from SRP in order for them to send it to you in the mail," Miller said. "The only other way to vote is on election day, and they will not tell you, or give you any notice at all, that there’s an election going.”
The deadline for early ballots is April 5, when in-person voting takes place.
