Hermosillo reporters join national mobilization calling for end to violence against colleagues

In Hermosillo and other cities across the country, journalists gathered Monday to demand justice for the now five reporters killed so far in 2022, most recently Heber López Vásquez in Oaxaca.

This comes several weeks after another round of nationwide protests that some called one of the most significant protests of reporters in years.

Apart from demands for justice in the recent murders, independent reporter and organizer Reyna Ramirez was said that reporters here in Sonora, where low pay and intense precarity are the working conditions for many, are demanding that more be done to ensure that media companies “employ reporters with minimal conditions of job security.”
