Earlier this week, the Arizona House approved — with the required two-thirds vote — a waiver of the expenditure cap that has schools concerned about having to make dramatic cuts this spring. But the state Senate has yet to act.
Now, Senate Republicans have moved to expand Arizona’s voucher program — also known as Empowerment Scholarship Accounts or ESAs. That action was taken despite voters’ rejection of a previous expansion effort. It’s into this environment that Randy Parraz steps as the new executive director of the Arizona Education Association.
The Show spoke with Parraz about whether Arizona is truly at the bottom of the list when it comes to school funding and respect for educators.
