Musical based on a Phoenix 'Dreamer' is heading for New York City

The cast and crew for a musical based on the patriotism of a “Dreamer” from Phoenix are headed to New York City for a 12-week run off Broadway.

"¡Americano!" is a biographical story about Antonio Valdovinos de la Mora, an immigrant who learned he was not a U.S. citizen while trying to enlist in the Marines.

Valdovinos now owns an election consulting firm and says the success of the musical is a privilege and responsibility.

“To continue representing 'Dreamers' that haven’t had the opportunity to give their talents and skills and join the workforce,” he said.

"¡Americano!" had a string of sellouts at Phoenix Theatre Company in early 2020.

The first performance in New York is scheduled for March 31, which is Cesar Chavez Day.
