Operations have been suspended at a gold mine in northern Sonora this week in the wake of an accident that left three dead.
Sonoran officials say they have suspended operations at the San Francisco mine near Santa Ana after finding a series of issues during an inspection following a cave-in Tuesday that killed three men.
Work will not be allowed to restart at the mine until the company addresses inspectors’ concerns, state security officials said in a press release. They will continue monitoring the mine to ensure that protocols meant to prevent accidents like the one that occured this week are being followed.
Magna Gold, the Canadian company that owns the mine, released a statement committing to comply with the investigation. The company says it will resolve issues within three days.
