Tourism is a big part of Arizona's economy. How other states are trying to get us to visit

We are still in the time of year when visitors traditionally flock to Arizona, trying to escape gray skies, snow and the cold in other parts of the country.

But other areas are also marketing to us, trying to convince us to visit maybe when temperatures cross triple digits for a few months on end. The marketing organization for Long Island, for example, recently announced it started its first-ever West Coast campaign, including targeting Valley residents to get us to head east with visions of beaches, the Hamptons and Belmont Stakes.

Tourism has been a big part of Arizona’s economy for a long time. The Show spoke more about that and how other parts of the country try to get us to visit with Kathleen Andereck, a professor in ASU’s School of Community Resources and Development, where she focuses on tourism.
