Major search turns up 6 people missing from Sonoran Yaqui communities

Six people recently reported missing from indigenous Yaqui communities in neighboring Sonora have been found.

That came after a major searching effort over several days and involving as many as 100 security officials.

On Sunday, the state attorney general announcedthat six people — five men and one woman — had been freed and were uninjured. Their full names were not provided, but all six were from the towns of Vicam or Potam.

Local, state and federal security officials participated in the search, as well as the traditional Yaqui guard. In separate incidents across the state, four other people reported missing were found, including two children in Guaymas who were victims of an apparent extortion scheme.
