Mexican president says no to 'economic retaliation' for Russia’s invasion of Ukraine

Mexico’s president says his country will not take punitive economic actions in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador made those comments at his daily press conference Tuesday.

His government will not undertake “any economic retaliation” in part because he wants to keep “good relations with all the world’s governments,” and be able to maintain dialogue with parties to the conflict.

Mexico did previously support a draftU.N. Security Council resolution condemning the invasion and calling on Russia to immediately withdraw all of its forces from Ukraine.
