2 men sentenced to more than 30 years for 2020 murder of Sonoran journalist

Two men have been sentenced for the 2020 murder of a journalist in neighboring Sonora.

Jose Guadalupe Castillo, an online journalist in Sonora’s second-biggest city Ciudad Obregon, was found murdered in front of his home in June 2020. Two men, identified only as Rodolfo and Desiderio Alejandro by authorities, were arrested the following month.

Both men were recently been found guilty of the murder and sentenced to 31 years and three months in prison.

In Mexico, the  vast majority of those who attack or murder journalists are never held accountable.
