Baseball's opening day is delayed again

Baseball’s opening day has been postponed again. The latest contract negotiations between players and owners broke off early Wednesday morning after a 16-and-a-half hour bargaining session.

Major League Baseball locked out players after the previous collective bargaining agreement expired in December. Some games had already been lost and on Wednesday, Commissioner Rob Manfred canceled 93 more.

That wipes out all regular-season games through April 13.

MLB had told the union that Tuesday was the last day to reach an agreement that would allow a full 162-game schedule, The players and owners have been arguing over several issues including team salary limits and how international players are drafted.

The delay also means that spring training for the 15 teams in the Cactus League here in the Valley and the 15 teams in the Florida Grapefruit League will be delayed.
