Starting on Monday, Arizona State University will ease its mask requirements, only requiring them on intercampus shuttles, in health care settings and designated courses.
Participation in the daily health check will be optional as well.
Mask requirements were reinstated in August 2021 when cases started to climb due to the delta variant.
As COVID-19 hospitalizations are heading down in the state, Arizona Public Health Association Executive Director Will Humble says, within reason, it’s time to lower the masks.
“Course, you know there’s people that are immunocompromised, or for one reason or another want to be really cautious, and there’s always gonna be N95 masks around for them," Humble said. "But for the general public it’s time to start letting your hair down."
He also says the pandemic numbers are dropping because of all the people who got vaccinated, and all those who didn’t and got infected by the highly contagious omicron variant.
