The abortion debate heats up around the country as many lawmakers eye election season

Advocates on all sides of the abortion debate are watching closely to see what individual states have done, or will do, when it comes to placing limits on when in a pregnancy the process will remain legal.

Texas was the most aggressive, approving a law that would give private citizens the ability to sue anyone who “aids or abets” an abortion more than six weeks into a pregnancy.

Last month, Arizona's Senate approved an abortion ban after 15 weeks of a pregnancy. Gov. Doug Ducey hasn’t said whether he’d sign the legislation, but he has signed other abortion restrictions in the past. One bill that would have banned medication abortions was defeated in the state House when three Republicans joined with the body’s Democrats.
