AZ man arrested on charges related to Jan. 6 Capitol breach

The Department of Justice announced an Arizona man has been arrested on charges of assault during the Capitol breach on Jan. 6, 2021. A criminal complaint was filed in the District of Columbia Court. 

Files show 50-year-old Jacob Zerkle of Bowie, Arizona, has been charged with assaulting, resisting or impeding officers, civil disorder, and engaging in physical violence in a restricted building or grounds. 

According to a press release from the Department of Justice,  Zerkle allegedly physically engaged with multiple Metropolitan police officers. According to court documents, he threw several punches at one officer, pushed at least one other and grabbed another’s baton. 

He was arrested in Tucson and will make an initial appearance Wednesday in the District of Arizona. 

The case is being investigated by the FBI. 

According to the Department of Justice, more than 775 people have been arrested since the Capitol attack 14 months ago.
