Sonoran woman disappears after leaving home to look for missing son

In neighboring Sonora, searching groups are asking for help to locate a woman who went missing last week. She had gone to look for her son.

Angélica Janeth Armenta Quintero, 37, has been missing for nearly a week.

She left her home in Cajeme on March 10 to look for her 19-year-old son after failing to hear from him for several days. Her family has been unable to reach her since.

Armenta is not a member of the volunteer searching group Madres Buscadoras de Sonora, but the group has been vocal in decrying her disappearance. Members of searching collectives have been are asking for greater protection for families looking for loved ones.

In Sonora, searchers have reported threats and kidnappings, and last year, a woman who had been searching for her missing husband was murdered.
