Several disability-related bills are gaining steam in the Arizona Legislature — including one that would prevent discrimination when it comes to organ transplantation in people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
It’s a huge step, according to Jon Meyers, executive director of the Arizona Developmental Disabilities Planning Council.
"And in the past, people have been denied on the basis of their disability. This creates a much more level playing field," Meyers said.
Another bill would expand the definition of abuse that Adult Protective Services uses when they investigate allegations against individuals. Meyers says this particular bill would expand the definition to include “emotional abuse.”
"This was a this is a bill that was introduced a couple of times and never really went anywhere, but this year, fortunately, it has some traction and it is moving forward," he said.
