Cactus League sees below-average attendance

Last week Cactus League began spring training after an extended lockout by owners.

Spokesperson Andrew Bagnato says so far, the attendance numbers are good, but they are below average, at around 6,500 per game.

“The last full season we had, 2019, the last regular season of Cactus League baseball, the average attendance was 7,900 to give you a perspective," Bagnato said.

He says that Arizona State University studies show most people who come are from out-of-state, and utilize the spring break window. It’s unclear if the late start is what affected attendance numbers.
