Deshaun Watson's NFL contract sends a 'horrible message' on sexual assault

Since the shocking 2014 video of running back Ray Rice attacking his then-girlfriend in an elevator, the National Football League has claimed that it is taking domestic violence and sexual assault incidents more seriously.

Rice, considered one of the best at his position, never returned to the league after the incident.

But the Arizona Cardinals’ recent signing of Jeff Gladney — who was found not guilty of felony assault against his former girlfriend — and the more than $200 million contract given to quarterback Deshaun Watson by the Cleveland Browns has raised red flags about the NFL’s policies. Watson has been accused by 22 massage therapists of sexual assault.

Nancy Armour is a columnist with USA Today.

The Show spoke with her to learn about Watson and the NFL’s approach to domestic violence and assault accusations.
