Tonto National Forest is proposing to charge fees at a number of popular recreation sites.
The East Verde River and Flowing Springs picnic areas near Payson are among the sites under consideration for a $12 per vehicle fee, although passes for seniors and others would still be honored.
The agency is also proposing to charge fees at five popular Off-Highway Vehicle zones that are close to the Valley.
Revenue generated from the fees will be used for maintenance and improvements.
Other pricing options may be available for those who buy their tickets in advance.
