Salt River Project begins annual switch from Verde River to Salt River water

Salt River Project harnesses the power of two rivers, the Verde and the Salt, and it taps into each river at different times of the year.

Every spring, SRP lowers its releases from the Verde River and begins to rely on the Salt.

The transition comes a little early this year because flows are projected to be a little lower than normal.

Releases from Bartlett Dam will gradually drop, and releases from Stewart Mountain Dam will increase throughout the week, which could affect those who use the Salt River for recreation. The swap should be complete by April 1.
