And although President Joe Biden has acted to reverse some of his predecessor's actions, concerns remain about how immigrants, especially those crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, are perceived.
In a recent essay for Zocalo Public Square, Ali Noorani of the National Immigration Forum argues that one of the problems is the way stories of border crossers are being told. He believes a balance between security and compassion is needed.
