A pair of high profile incidents has once again highlighted concerns over financial-related racism.
One involved a Black TikTok star who says he was turned away from a Pennsylvania bank when he went in to have a check validated. And earlier this year, film director Ryan Coogler was mistaken for a bank robber when he attempted to withdraw $10,000 from his account at a bank near Atlanta.
Kiana Maria Sears, president of Arizona’s East Valley NAACP, says occurrences like those aren’t rare in the financial services industry.
