Real estate summit scheduled for next month in Sonora

Sonoran officials were in Phoenix on Thursday to promote a real estate summit that they hope can grow into a yearly gathering alternating between the United States and Mexico.

The idea is to pool expertise on both sides of the border so Mexicans can learn about buying property here, and for Arizonans to learn the steps to follow in Sonora.

Summit organizer Jose Sierra took part in a news conference at the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix. He said U.S. citizens cannot own land near the Sonoran coast. So the right way to buy a beach house there is through a trust or LLC.

“[We’re] going to take you step by step on what you need to do in order to have no risk in your investment,” he said.

The real estate summit is scheduled to take place next month in San Carlos, Sonora.
