Phil Boas: Why free speech needs to remain free, even if we don't agree with it

The Show regularly checks in with the editorial board of the Arizona Republic to talk about current issues facing the state and the region — featured in columns on the newspaper’s op-ed pages.

The intensity of the political divide in the United States has overlapped with other parts of our daily lives — including how we talk to coworkers and neighbors. So how open is too open when it comes to expressing our opinions? Could we offend someone, and could that have larger consequences?

In Sunday’s edition of the Republic, the author of the book, "Free Speech: A History from Socrates to Social Media," weighed in.

The Show spoke with the paper's editorial page editor, Phil Boas, to learn about the column and why he wanted to run it.
