The Maricopa County Board of Supervisors has approved $17 million to help address affordable-housing needs.
Of that $17 million from the federal American Rescue Plan Act, the county says it will use $8 million to convert an existing hotel on Van Buren Street in central Phoenix into 50 new housing units and $9 million to build two rental complexes in Glendale and south Phoenix.
The hotel conversion is expected to be finished by summer 2023, and the property will offer on-site case management services to assist those transitioning from homelessness.
Centerline on Glendale, the project to build a housing complex on 67th and Glendale avenues, is proposed to offer 368 rental units. The two-phase construction has no estimated time of completion. The project near Broadway Road and 14th Street, Salt River Flats, is projected to have 192 rental units by March 2024.
The projects are expected to add more than 600 affordable housing units to the Valley.
