'How to Clone a Mammoth': Evolutionary biologist Beth Shapiro on the facts and fiction of extinction

The list of animals and creatures that have gone extinct is a long one. All of us know about dinosaurs, and many of us have heard of the dodo bird and the saber-toothed tiger. And no matter what some of us may hope in our imaginations, there is no such thing as de-extinction, so these creatures are essentially lost to history.

Evolutionary biologist Beth Shapiro has been asked by so many people about bringing these animals back to life that she wrote a book called, "How to Clone a Mammoth." And she’ll be speaking about the concept April 13 in Mesa as part of the "National Geographic Live" speaker series.

Prior to that, The Show spoke with Shapiro about how often the average person asks her about cloning and de-extinction.
