Attorneys for the state have asked a judge to toss a lawsuit that claims the state is not fulfilling its constitutional obligation to adequately fund new schools.
While those lawyers are arguing the state has already made changes, attorneys for school districts and the Arizona School boards Association say it has not succeeded in achieving what is necessary for funding through the normal legislative process.
Attorney for the challengers Joshua Bendor says different districts have to raise more money than others.
"So the taxpayer who owns a home in Peoria, to raise that same amount of taxpayer funding per pupil, is going to be paying five times as high a rate as a homeowner in Scottsdale," Bendor said.
The problems go back to 1994 when the state was ordered to create a system to provide adequate funding for all districts. The judge did not say when he will make a ruling.
