Celebration to honor Charles Mingus to be held in Nogales

Jazz legend Charles Mingus would have turned 100 on Friday, and in honor a festival is being held in his birth city on Saturday.

The Charles Mingus Centennial Jazz Celebration will be held in Nogales to honor the bassist and composer.

Saxophonist Charles Mcpherson played with Mingus in the past, and will perform with the Mingus Dynasty Quintet.

Mingus was born in a military base in the city in 1922.

A second festival will be held April 30 in Tubac, between Tucson and Nogales.
